To qualify for leave under the New Jersey Family Leave Act, an employee must have worked for their employer for at least 12 months and have logged at least 1,000 hours in the past 12 months. The employee must also work in a New Jersey location. New Jersey Family Leave (NJ FLI) insurance provides partial wage replacement to eligible state employees who take leave for a qualified reason. An eligible employee is an individual who works for a covered employer, contributes to the state's FLI plan, and meets applicable income requirements.
Did you know that creating a ticket on the human resources portal guarantees a faster response? This law gives employees up to 6 weeks of paid family leave, with two-thirds of the weekly wage, up to a state maximum amount in dollars. Paid leave may be available for employees who need to stay home to care for a newborn or adopted child or to care for a sick family member. The first seven days after a claim is filed are the waiting week. Benefits cannot be paid during this week until benefits have been paid for each of the three weeks immediately following the waiting week. If a period of family leave immediately follows an eligible period of temporary disability due to the person's own illness, there is no waiting period for claiming family leave insurance.
