How does the ppp program work in nj?

PCA services are non-urgent health-related tasks provided under NJ FamilyCare. Tasks include helping with activities of daily living (ADL) and with instrumental activities. Self-directed services are home and community services that help you or a loved one with their personal care needs maintain independence. Self-directed services allow you to personally choose which services are best suited to personal needs, who will provide them and when and where the services will be provided in accordance with the guidelines of the Program.

The New Jersey Personal Preference Program (PPP) is a participant-led program for NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) beneficiaries who are elderly or disabled and require personal care assistance. Through the PPP, participants are allocated a monthly budget to manage their own long-term care. Within their budget, program participants can hire the caregiver of their choice, pay for home modifications, and purchase assistive technology to promote independent living. The PPP, an alternative to services provided by an agency, provides program participants with more flexibility and options when it comes to the services and supports they need to live at home.
